
Archie is originally from Brazil, educated in the U.S. at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah. He has been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since age 16. He retired from the Department of Defense as a civilian administrator in the Defense Language Institute (DLI) in Monterey, CA. A veteran of the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne Division, he also served with the 11th Airborne Division in Germany during the "Cold War". In Florida, he served as a volunteer of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary retiring after 16 years of service. During his tenure with the USCG Auxiliary he served as Flotilla Staff Officer (FSO) for Public Education (PE), and Public Affairs (PA) for the 07-09-10 (7th District, 9th Division,10th Flotilla) in addition to the position of Staff Officer (SO) for the 11N Division in California before coming to Florida. He wrote a monthly boating safety Coast Guard Auxiliary column in the New-Press, local newspaper, for 11 years. His latest award, received in 2011, was the U.S. Coast Guard Commandant Award of Operational Merit in support of the United States Nave's African Partnership Station (APS) aboard USS SWIFT off the East African Coast. He has been living in Florida for the last 24 years and is married to E. Irene Painter Schmidt.
A graveside service with military honors for Archimedes will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Sarasota National Cemetery 9810 State Rd. 72, Sarasota Fl.
