

Joan Margaret McCaffrey, 89, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 18, 2021 surrounded by her family in Pine Island, Florida. Joan was born to Vincent and Hilary Giles on June 12, 1931, in Hackensack, NJ.
She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, James G. McCaffrey; children Kathleen Perkins, James-Butch (Kathy) McCaffrey, Patricia (Craig) Clifford, Michael (Renee) McCaffrey, and Sean (Shannon) McCaffrey along with 16 grandchildren (48-8yrs) and 9 great-grandchildren (24yrs.- 4wks)
She studied at Holy Name Hospital, Teaneck, NJ in their nursing program in 1949. Married in 1950 she lived in Emerson, NJ till 1970. Joan started her banking career there in Emerson as a bank teller. The family moved to Beach Haven, NJ, in 1970 where she continued her banking career. She rose to bank manager position in the Beach Haven branch of Bay State Bank and quickly became VP of that bank. Joan and Jim moved to St. James City, Florida in the mid 70’s and became permanent residents in the early 80’s. Joan quickly became involved in the community joining local organizations including the Moose, Elks, Red Hat Society. Joan was the ultimate organizer, always in charge in the best way possible. That is why she was involved in all these other community organizations in all her home towns. Girl Scout leader, softball coach, volunteer ambulance Corp., hobby club, garden club and later on joined Soroptimist Int’l women’s organization. Joan also became involved with her beloved church, Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, where she became a Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the Ladies Guild. She loved volunteering for all the social events throughout the years. She had a role in the fund raising to build the new church, and she also was on the committee to help pick out the furnishings for the heart of the church.
A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 11am at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church.
