Mary Jane (Sutherland) McClellan, 98, of Punta Gorda, FL, passed away in Pt. Charlotte, Friday, June 10, 2016. Born Sept. 13, 1917 in Detroit, MI, Mary Jane is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, S. Griffin McClellan, Jr. They spent their early years in the Panama Canal Zone where she worked in security for the Canal Zone during the war years and was active as a Sunday school teacher and Brownie leader. In 1951, the family moved to the states, settling in NY where she worked as a secretary for many years before retiring to FL. A lifelong member of Eastern Star, Mary Jane’s family was everything to her and she loved keeping up with all of their adventures. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren loved to hear stories about her parents, siblings, extended family and ancestors. After her family, came her love for the game of bridge. She leaves behind 2 children, Kaye MacDonald and Griffin McClellan; 6 grandchildren, Heather and John MacDonald, Elaine Niemann, Leigh Weed, Mike McClellan and Linda Lane; 11 great-grandchildren.
