It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Walter Luke Schwatka, age 62, a vibrant and loving resident of Cape Coral, Florida, who left us unexpectedly while in Colombia on Friday, July 11, 2025.
Born on January 3, 1963, in Baltimore, Maryland, Walter lived a life defined by resilience, generosity, and joy. A self-made man, he rose from humble beginnings to build a rich and beautiful life—driven by faith, fueled by ambition, and centered around his enduring love for his wife and family.
Walter’s entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by his zest for life. He was never one to settle—he believed in the best of the best and worked tirelessly to share success, not just to keep it for himself. Whether he was mentoring others with invaluable life lessons, or diving into animated conversations about money, business, and cars, Walter made every moment meaningful and every interaction authentic.
He had an undeniable charm—an ever-present smile, an infectious laugh, and a love for dancing, singing, and cycling that made him unforgettable. He wore his heart—and often, his style—on his sleeve, embracing bold clothing and bold friendships with equal passion. He had a soft spot for chocolate treats and never shied away from a good, hearty meal shared with those he loved most.
Walter was a man who lived out loud, with openness and purpose. He carried no secrets, only stories—and left behind a legacy of love, ambition, and connection that will echo through generations.
Walter is survived by his loving wife, Nelly; 6 children, Heather Schwatka, Brandi Schwatka, Joshua Schwatka. Kristy Long, Karen Espitia and Camila Espitia; eight adored grandchildren; as well as many extended family members and friends.
A Memorial Gathering celebrating Walters Life will be held from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, 950 Chiquita Blvd., Cape Coral, FL.
