William McDermott Kinner, age 67, passed away on December 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife, his children, and several close friends. His final moments were filled with profound love, comfort, and the presence of those whose lives he touched so deeply.
William—known to many simply as Bill or “Mac” —was a devoted husband who steadfastly supported his wife, Julie, through her education and throughout her career. Together, they moved to several different places, approaching each new chapter with partnership, humor, and shared purpose. Bill also adored his children, Emily and Mitchell. He celebrated their success in life.
After purchasing a home in Cape Coral, Bill proudly embraced the city as his adopted home. He took great joy—and even greater pride—in maintaining a well-kept home ensuring it always reflected the care he poured into everything he did. He was looking forward to making that home his full time residence.
Bill had a large personality that could fill any room, and his infectious smile made it impossible not to feel welcomed in his presence. He had an extraordinary gift for making friends wherever he went, and many of those friendships lasted a lifetime.
Having grown up in Detroit, Bill was an ardent fan of the Red Wings and the Tigers, cheering them on with unwavering loyalty. He also worked as a baseball umpire, a role he thoroughly enjoyed and one that allowed him to stay close to the game he loved.
He lived a rich and joyful life, passionate about hockey, baseball, travel, reading, coffee, and a perfectly baked chocolate chip cookie. His interests reflected his spirit—curious, energetic, and always finding joy in both the big adventures and the small daily delights.
Bill is survived by his wife, Julie Firman; his daughter, Emily Kinner; and his son, Mitchell Kinner. His siblings include Joann Engles (Dale), Caron Cichon (Jack), Bert Kinner (Dottie), Steve Cardoze (Vicki), Rick Cardoze (Patti), Anne Welburn (John), and Julie Cortelezzi (Bob). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, along with many lifelong friends who loved him like family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Ann Kinner.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, March 30, 2026 at Coral Ridge Funeral Home & Cemetery in Cape Coral, Florida.
Closing Verse “For everything, there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.”
This verse from Ecclesiastes reminds us that life is a complex tapestry of experiences—joyful and sorrowful alike. Today, as we gather to celebrate Bill’s life, we remember not only the sorrow of his passing but the abundant joy he brought into the lives of others.
