Alan Mills Carr

Alan is survived by his wife of 57 years Margaret (Duncan) Carr and his four daughters, Barbara Segal (Leslie) of Radville, Becky Pittman of Arcola, Sandra Hagenes (Todd) of Archerwill, and Donna Thompson (John) of McFarland, Wisconsin, USA. The grandchildren are Lliana and Daniel Segal, Lisa and Amy Pittman, Jake and Taylor Hagenes, and Noah and Ava Thompson. Great grandchildren are Izzy and Wesley Plant. Doug Garner, a brother-in-law, lives in Regina. And many nieces and nephews. Alan was pre-deceased by his parents Wesley and Laura Carr, sisters Doris and her husband Herb Wilson, and Lenna Garner.

Alan was born on the family farm in South Arcola district. He attended school at South Arcola and Arcola Schools. He started to farm in 1952, renting land from his father. Alan was very sports-minded, playing ball and curling. He had an exceptional throwing arm and while playing right field, he used to hold the ball until a runner left 3rd base, and then threw him out at home plate. He retired to Arcola in 1989 where he was always ready to help anyone who needed help of any kind. He loved to refinish furniture both for his family and others and took great pride in the before and after pictures. A quiet and gentle man who rarely raised his voice; he had an innate sense of right and wrong and expected the best in others and usually found it.

Although he was legally blind, he still curled, worked in his shop, and enjoyed carving meats for the Arcola Hall kitchen whenever there was a catered event. He was a member of the St. Andrew’s United Church, serving as a trustee at the time of his death. He also enjoyed being a member of the Arcola Ceiladh Scottish Dancers.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 8 from St. Andrew’s United Church, Arcola with Rev. Cornelia van Bentum officiating.

The family ask that there be no flowers, but a memorial donation may be made to St. Andrew’s United Church, Box 383, Arcola, Sk. S0C 0G0 or Moose Mountain Health Care Recruitment Corporation, Box 580, Arcola, Sk S0C 0G0.
