Elizabeth Claire Chapman,

79, of Carmel, departed this life Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at her home. Elizabeth was born May 19, 1942 in Lake County, Indiana to the late Clay William and Cordelia Mae (Corns) Hatler. She was a graduate of Hammond High School and then attended Williams Woods College. She then completed her education at Butler University. Elizabeth was a creative entrepreneur. She had a farm in Hamilton County and would grow the best produce. For decades she and her “Earthly Delights” produce stands were a common attraction at local farmer markets. She also had the first food truck in the area at Earl’s Auction on the west side along with the only Mexican restaurant at City Market – The Rio Grande. Elizabeth was also a produce broker and was well respected by the Amish Community. Elizabeth was the definition of a “people person”, she had never met a stranger and was always a positive influence on others. Throughout her life, she always had an uncommon knack to be involved in children’s lives. She had an incredibly big heart and dedicated countless hours fostering the development of our youth. For many years, she was very active in the Hamilton County Child Advocacy Association and later, Promising Futures of Noblesville. She also served as a CASA – court appointed special advocate in Hamilton County. When there was free time, she enjoyed cooking, ballroom dancing and attending film festivals. She was happiest though making memories with her beloved family. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her loving husband, Barry L. Chapman. She is survived by her devoted children, Liza Chapman, Kirk Chapman and Wes Chapman and her dear granddaughter, Madeleine Chapman as well as, a host of old dear friends and grateful customers. Visitation for Elizabeth will be from 2:00 pm until time of services at 3:00 pm on July 24th at Leppert Mortuary – Smith Carmel Chapel. Inurnment follows at Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to: Boulevard Place Food Pantry, 4204 Boulevard Place, Indianapolis, IN 46208. Online condolences available at www.leppertmortuary.com

Liz was the best friend and neighbor. Her zest for life, extreme generosity and love for my children will forever hold a place in my heart. My boys Brock and Chase Hallett loved working the markets and help on the farm. Anything to get teens up at 0530am in Saturday’s and not want to miss was alright by me! My daughter Bailey Hallett spent much time with Liz crafting and talking. Liz was in our lives for many key events good and not so good. She and I talked about so many things through the years and I often turned to her for advise and confirmation. Like a second mom to me really… Fond memories of laughing on the deck with margaritas and such will be with me always. I have no doubt heavenly delights abound now…dancing unparalleled , and love eternal will flow…I will miss you my friend and neighbor … until we meet again❤️

Liz nourished our family with soups, produce, flowers, stories, and friendship. What a special person! Our deepest sympathy in her passing. My goodness she will be missed!

Liz was as big as life from baking the best cakes with Liza to practically raising me through farmers markets and visits all through my youth. I never knew her to be a slow down kind of gal, someone who was always going and doing with a true zest about her. I’ll love and miss her dearly. What an impact she’s left!

We loved this generous, spritely and spirited lady. She was always generous when we gleaned for the Boulevard Place Food Pantry at the Broad Ripple Farmers' Market and always eager to share recipes. Thanks to the family for their thoughtfulness in mentioning the pantry as a possibility for donations in her memory.

Kirk, Liza and Wes, We are so sorry for your loss. Your mother was one of a kind with her endless energy and beautiful hair. I was always in awe of her delicious vegetable soup and she shared her recipe with me. She was a kind, loving and giving woman and you are so fortunate to have her as your mother. Thank you for sharing the pictures, the ones of her wedding to your father touched us deeply. Rest in peace Liz Chapman.

We will certainly Liz at the Broad Ripple Farmers Market. Earthly Delights was one of the original vendors of the market when it started in 1994. Among other things, we will miss her warm vegetable soup she brought us all on cold fall mornings.
