Alan Louis Huddleston, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and esteemed medical physicist, passed away on May 21, 2025, at the age of 80 in Dallas, Texas.

Alan was born in Waco, Texas, on July 29, 1944, to Eugene Lee Huddleston and Ruby Eugina Huddleston. He graduated from Waco High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Baylor University, a Master of Science in Physics from Kansas University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Physics from the University of California, Los Angeles. Alan was married three times and is survived by his children, Lisa Kay Huddleston and Katherine Young Quinn.

Alan worked as a medical physicist and professor for over 36 years, making significant contributions to the field. He began his career as a medical physicist at Norman, Brannon & Associates, Radiologists in San Antonio before transitioning into academia as an Assistant Professor of Medical Physics at the University of Virginia Medical School in Charlottesville. He later became an Associate Professor of Radiology at Texas Tech University Medical School in Lubbock and served as Chief of Medical Physics at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. His leadership continued as President and Chief Medical Physicist of Texas Radiation Physics Associates, Inc. Alan was also a Fellow of the American College of Medical Physics, serving as Chairman of the organization and guiding advancements in the field. He traveled extensively in the US and abroad throughout his career.

Alan had a deep passion for exploring his ancestry, tracing his family’s roots to Germany and England, eventually reconnecting with relatives in Göppingen, Germany alongside his daughters. He cherished the mountains and forests of his home in Angel Fire, New Mexico, where he and his family made countless memories on ski trips and summer adventures.

Alan is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Lee Huddleston and Ruby Eugina Huddleston; his sister, Sheryl Ann Cobbs and her husband Albert Darrell Cobbs; and his brother, Gary Lee Huddleston. He is survived by his brother, Brian Carl Huddleston, and his wife, Ann Wallace Huddleston; his daughters, Lisa Kay Huddleston and her fiancé, Charles Michael Buss, and Katherine Young Quinn; as well as his grandchildren, Alexis Gail Peveler, Sydney Diane Peveler, and Hayden Reece Quinn.

Lisa and Kathy will hold a memorial service to honor Alan in the coming months.
