July 1, 1965 – March 11, 2025
Andrew, known as “Drew” to many was born and raised in Dallas, Texas and passed on Tuesday March 11, 2025. Andrew courageously battled cancer for the past four years. He was so full of humor and zest for life that you wouldn’t have ever known he was sick. Andrew was a man of faith. Some may say he lost his battle, but the glorious reunion that awaited him was his ultimate win.
Andrew was the owner of Andrew’s Drywall and Paint. The pride he took in his craft was evident whenever he would take a step back and smile at his completed project. He was a “Jack of all Trades and a Master of All”! His natural talent for being “Mr. Fix It” always kept his clients coming back and eventually became friends. In addition, he enjoyed mentoring anyone wanting to learn his craft.
If you were a friend of Andrew’s, then you’d have a friend for life. He was always willing to help in any way that was needed. A kind hearted man, Andrew would give you the last few dollars in his pocket and would take food and blankets to the homeless.
Golfing, fishing, hunting and going to the shooting range were just a few of the many hobbies he enjoyed. Elephant Ears and Caladiums were his favorite to plant, the bigger they grew made his heart smile. Andrew loved inviting friends over to barbecue, play music or just hang out. When Andrew discovered YouTube, his world became brighter and even more full of laughter that you’d find yourself laughing by just hearing him. His daily texts with Youtube links would brighten anyone’s day.
His “girls”, Chela and Rosie were his pride and joy! Next to them it was Betty and Emma, who he loved with his whole heart. Traveling was a more recent hobby, always reminiscing about his vacation to Walt Disney World with Betty and Emma.
Andrew is preceded in death by his parents, Lorenzo and Aurora Benavidez, Aunt Dolores, Uncle Sal and Jessie Joe and cousin Robert. He leaves behind his sister Yolanda DelaCruz, brother-in-law Rick, niece Loren, nephew Elijah, his fiancé Betty Alvarado and daughter Emma. As well as his Aunt Mary Lupe Alva, Uncles Carmen and John Mendoza, many cousins and friends.
Yolanda and Rick would like to thank their Aunt Lupe for her unyielding love and care while Andrew was on Hospice. Thank you to Andrew’s life-long friend, Charlie, for being there for Andrew and taking care of Chela and Rosie when Andrew couldn’t.
