Cynthia Z. Calderon Gonzales went to be with her Lord on October 11, 2013 at the age of 59 at her home in Carrollton, Texas. She was born August 9, 1954 in Laredo, Texas and was the daughter of Ernestina Calderon and Enrique Ramirez.
She attended J. W. Nixon High School in Laredo. She later attended Our Lady of the Lake University and the Universidad Autonoma de Mexico in San Antonio, Texas and West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. She received a B.S. in General Studies and Business Administration from West Texas State and was certified by the Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language in New York City, New York. Employment included Hewlett Packard Company, West Texas State University, the County of Midland, Texas Commerce Bank and the City of Dallas.
She was active in many community services including the Carrollton Citizens Police Academy, Texas Crime Prevention Association and National Crime Watch Association, Savoy of Josey Ranch Neighborhood Crime Watch Director (Carrollton), Moms in Touch Prayer Group, CFBISD District Improvement Committee, Board of Directors for El Centro Cultural Mexicano / México Institute (Dallas), Dallas Women’s Center Board of Directors, Board of Directors for Ballet Dallas, Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program and Board member-Economic Development Comm. Co-Chair, Dallas Geological & Geophysical Auxiliary, Midland Need Read Literacy Program, Ballet Midland, Up with People Hosting Family, Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas-Permian Basin Area-Steering comm. Chair/Founding Member, Hispanas Adelante, Project ABC (Any Baby Can), Mayor’s Commission for the Status of Women (San Antonio) , Bexar County Women’s Center, League for Exceptional Children, Bexar County Juvenile Probation Volunteer-Broadcast Media spokesperson/translator, Chairman for Police and Crime Prevention luncheons, Salvation Army for Girls, Old Crow’s Association, Blessed Sacramento Catholic Church, Association of Collegiate Entrepreneurs, Old Crows Association-exclusive translator-coordinated events with U.S. and Mexican Chambers and Mayors, and others.
She received numerous recognitions including the Carrollton, Texas Mayor’s Recognition for Police Volunteering, United States Presidential Police Volunteer Recognition Award, Carrollton CCPAAA Police and Police Volunteer Recognition Award, Carrollton Mayor’s Police and Police Volunteer Recognition Award, Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers, Dallas Mayor and City Council Inauguration, Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers-Honorary Life Membership in recognition of distinguished service to children and youth, Texas Municipal League-(Dallas/Austin) Receptions and Meetings Coordinator Appreciation Award, Bea’s Kids Volunteer Award, Civic Leadership Award – (Non-Member) – LULAC, Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce Leadership Graduate, Neighbor Helping Neighbor – Volunteer Recognition, Habitat for Humanity – Volunteer Recognition, Hispanic Woman Achievement Award, Midland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce – Women’s Department, Casa de Amigos – Midland, Texas Volunteer Award – Drop-Out Prevention Program Coordinator/Mentor, Leadership Midland Graduate and others.
She married Eduardo Gonzales on July 27, 1985 in Amarillo, Texas and was married for 28 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernestina Calderon and Enrique Ramirez. She is survived by her husband; son Alexander Gonzales, Carrollton; sister, Yvonne Aldrete, San Antonio and husband Steven Aldrete and four children, Valerie, Nicole, Steven and Adam; brother, Roger Calderon, Laredo, Texas and wife Rosa and four children, Delilah, Valerie, Roger Jr. and Stephanie; brother, Mario Calderon, Laredo, Texas and wife Diana and four children Mario Jr, Mark, Erika and Matthew. There are also several great nieces and great nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 16, 2013 from 6-9 pm with a Rosary at 7 pm in the Chapel of Rhoton Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 11 am. Burial will follow at 2:15 at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
