
Jewel was preceded in death by her husband, Horace, her parents, and her siblings Henry, E.L., Benny, Mollie and DC. She is survived by her brother Charlie Bassing and his son Tim's family in Lake City, Arkansas. Locally, she is survived by nieces and nephews Mike Gose, Patty Crews and Danny Gose as well as Todd Gose, Sherry Bibort and Julie Lopez. She is survived by her sister-in-laws Ann Bassing and Mary Bassing and other numerous nieces and nephews in the West Texas and New Mexico area.
Jewel's family moved to the Forest Hill Community when she was in the second grade where she excelled in all subjects, especially spelling and math. Jewel and her husband Horace moved to Dallas, Addison, Carrollton area in the late 1930's. While there Horace worked as a carpenter. Jewel worked as an instructor in a nursery school. When they returned to the Forest Hill area for their retirement years, Jewel worked at the Honey Grove Nursing Center and McCuistion Hospital in Paris as a nurses's aide.
Jewel was a faithful member of the Forest Hill United Methodist Church for many years; therefore, both the Forest Hill Community and the Forest Hill United Methodist Church will honor her memory with a memorial service at the Forest Hill United Methodist Church on Sunday, August 25, 2013, her birthday, at the 9:30 a.m. worship service. Pastor Vivian Crowson will conduct the services. The community and church members are hopeful that all of Jewel's friends will join us at this service.
Jewel's final resting place will be the Abbey Mausoleum at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas with Rhoton Funeral Home of Carrollton in charge of arrangements.
