Marsha received her public education in the Van Vleck ISD Schools (Van Vleck, TX). She graduated from Van Vleck High School (VVHS) in 1975 and furthered her education by earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, TX.
At an early age, she joined Bethlehem Christian Church where she served as an usher alongside her dad. Marsha helped her parents and siblings manage the family grocery store and soul food restaurant, Petteway Grocery and The Kozy Kitchen. She also had the pleasure of working side-by-side with her Uncle Lemon and Aunt Nine at Lemon’s Pit Barbeque.
Marsha was an excellent seamstress who made gowns, tailored suits for men and women and drapes. She never shied away from a ‘major’ home improvement project including installing floors and painting. She LOVED to decorate her home for the holidays in various shades of blue to represent her beloved Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
Marsha was a member of Keller Springs Baptist Church (Carrollton, TX) for many years and served faithfully as an usher.
She departed this earthly life, Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Plano Presbyterian Hospital in Plano, Texas. She leaves to mourn her husband and best friend of 43 years, Elmo Giles Jr., her son Terrence Giles and daughter, Alexandria Giles; one brother, Otis James Petteway, Jr. (Velda Elaine) of Cedar Lake, Texas; four sisters, Vera Petteway-Nyormoi (Okot) of Houston, Texas, Theola Petteway of Houston, Texas, Gwendolyn Petteway of Pearland, Texas, and Jacqueline Petteway of Fresno, Texas.
