Mary Eugena Krkoska Shields, a longtime resident of Carrollton, Texas, joined her Lord and Savior in His mighty Kingdom on September 15, 2021 at the age of 93. Mary was born on November 9, 1927 on a farm near Gunter, Texas to Frank Joseph and Zofie Mary Zett Krkoska. She had five brothers and sisters, all of whom preceded her in death; Rosie Krkoska, Frank Krkoska, Joan Krkoska Frnka, Millie Krkoska Bryant, and Fred Krkoska.
Mary married the love of her life, Malcom Dwain Shields of Celina, Texas on February 3, 1947, and together had four children. Mary is survived by three sons and their spouses, Billy Lynn and Shelia Shields of Corinth, Texas; Jerry Dwain and Cindy Shields of Alexander, Arkansas; and Carl Edward and Sherry Shields of Carrollton, Texas. Mary is preceded in death by her daughter Shirley Ann Shields Hoover, wife of Kenneth Hoover of Flower Mound, Texas. Malcom also preceded Mary in death on January 14, 2008, after 60 years of marriage.
Mary had ten grandchildren; Daphne Shields Perkins, Kristy Hoover Trick, Robert Shields, Dustin Shields, Justin Shields, Jennifer Shields Roberts, Aaron Shields, Tonya Shields Richmond, Dallen Shields, Melyssa Gardner Alston, twenty great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She also had an abundance of extended family and dear friends.
Mary worked for the Carrollton-Farmers Branch School District and was a stay at home mom for many years. She celebrated her Czech heritage by making homemade kolaches, and speaking and teaching her native language with her family. She also enjoyed the pleasures of gardening, needlepoint, and cooking, creating wonderful meals shared lovingly with her family, friends, and church.
Mary and Malcom were avid members of Northside Baptist Church in Carrollton, Texas. Mary was a faithful volunteer at the church for many years, even helping process the monthly newsletter until her passing. She loved spending time with her fellow church friends and staff, always returning home with a big smile and warm stories to share. Even when she was unable to attend church services in person, she would watch them on TV or online. God blessed Mary with an angelic voice and she delighted in the days of being in the church choir. She is often remembered joyfully singing hymns around the house, remembering every word and verse as if the hymnal was in front of her. A strong woman of faith and a child of God, Mary often prayed for those who requested or were in need of prayer.
Mary cherished all of her family and friends. She will be missed dearly!
Memorial gifts in the name of Mary E Shields can be made to Northside Baptist Church, 2000 N Denton Dr, Carrollton, Texas 75006.
