

Born January 3, 1939 in Leavenworth, Kansas. The daughter of Paul George Daugherty and Retta Maple Hann. She had two older brothers, Kelly Allen (who died at the age of three months) and Paul George, Junior who died in 1995. Her family moved from Kansas City to the Potwin District in Topeka, Kansas in 1945 then to 817 Anderson Terrace in 1947 She was a member of the First Congregational Church where she taught Sunday school as a teenager. She was a girl scout and achieved the “Curved Bar” and later, as an adult, was a leader at Camp Daisy Hindman in Dover, Kansas. At the age of 12 she worked along with her mother as a Red Cross volunteer during the 1951 flood in Topeka. She was a member of Job’s Daughters. At the age of 13 she was a “Candy Striper” at Saint Francis Hospital and during much of her adult life she continued to volunteer as a member of the Hospital Auxiliary at Stormont-Vail hospital. During high school she was active in many activities including, but not limited to, the school paper, Pep Club, and the Kansas State Science Fair, where she received the second place award for her exhibit of dissected fetal pigs. Throughout her adult life she as active in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Indian Guides, Church, numerous school events, Red Cross, Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, and Community food pantries. While in Topeka her family usually included a young adult resident transitioning from the Menninger Psychiatric Center back into the “real world.” When she moved to Texas, she organized the largest crime watch in Dallas County which included 750 homes! She was held in high esteem by the Carrollton Police Department for her “National Night Out” events and involvement in community activities. Among those things she loved greatly were her family, her church, her many friends, volunteering to help others, caring for grandchildren, gardening, entertaining , and being with her family and friends.
Her life was filled with love for her God and those she could help! On June 15, 1958 she married the boy she met at the amusement park at Sixth and Gage in Topeka, Kansas. Their wedding was held at the First Congregational Church in Topeka. They were married for 55 years, 3 months and 27 days! On October 1, 2013 at 7:15 AM, she went to be with her Lord, her granddaughter Emily, and her parents. She was a true blessing to her family, all her friends, and the thousands of lives she touched!
