Troy Dee Glidewell Sr.

Troy D. Glidewell, Sr. passed away on March 9, 2011 in Coppell, Texas. Troy was born in Carrollton, Texas on March 22, 1931. He lived in Carrollton/Farmers Branch until he joined the Army at the age of 17. He served for four years, in Japan and Korea. In 1952 Troy left the Army and married Patricia Lee, and they moved to Coppell. They were still living in their home in Coppell at the time of his death. In 1958 Troy helped to establish the first volunteer Fire Department in Coppell. He also became the first Fire Marshal of the city, as well as Building Official, and served temporarily as a Police Officer. Troy worked as an electronics and television repairman, and owned his own business Glidewell Electronics located on the old downtown square in Carrollton. He owned that business until the mid 1970's when he became a full time paid Fireman for the City of Coppell. He retired from the City in 1985. Troy was also a member of the VFW, as well as a ham radio operator.

Troy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia of Coppell; one son Troy Glidewell, Jr. of Coppell and his wife Christine; daughter Kathy Henson of Coppell and her husband Dean; daughter Linda Glidewell of Lewisville, Texas; daughter Carolyn Chittenden of Boyd, Texas; brother Robert Glidewell of Cartwright, Texas; sister Marie Eudy of Cartwright, Texas; ten grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He will be missed greatly by all of his family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Rhoton's Funeral Home in Carrollton on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Viewing will be on Sunday evening from 6:00 - 9:00 PM.

The family would also like to thank Chief Kevin Richardson and the entire Coppell Fire Department for all of their support and assistance during his illness and with the funeral services of Chief Troy Glidewell. We love all of you, and you have always meant so much to Chief Glidewell and the entire family. We could not have done this without you guys.
