Craig graduated from Hillcrest High School and then went to trade school for welding. He pursued careers in aircraft, oil well fabrications, machinery welding, and mechanics.
Craig enjoyed fishing, motorcycles, dove hunting, and target shooting. His favorite place was being outdoors and watching the wildlife. He also enjoyed experiences like driving a NASCAR and skydiving. His biggest joy in life was his grandchildren and teaching them how to drive the truck around his property and making them laugh any way he could.
Craig is survived by his daughter Ashley (Richard) Norton of Divide, Colorado, his son Dusty (Andie) Smirl of Sanger, Texas, his mother Cleo Turner Smirl of Aubrey, Texas, his sister Cara (Benny) Reynolds of Palatka, Florida, and his brother Lane Smirl of Celina, Texas. His grandchildren are Creagan and Laken Norton and Gunter Smirl.
Craig is preceded in death by his father John Smirl and his brother Drew Smirl.
Visitation will be held at Rhoton Funeral Home located at 1511 South Interstate 35-E in Carrollton, Texas on Thursday, October 28th from 4 to 8pm. Memorial services will be Friday, October 29th at 10am at Rhoton. Burial will be at 12pm at Mt. Calvary Cemetery (7300 block of Valley View Lane) in Dallas, Texas.
