Ed Cordisco passed away peacefully in the presence and love of his family and friends in Carson City. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jenny (Seljan) Cordisco; his daughter, Christina (Tom) DeVries of New Braintree, MA; his sons, Anthony Cordisco of Las Vegas, NV; Michael (Suzy) Cordisco of Portland, OR; Edward Cordisco, Jr. of Carson City, NV; & grandchildren, Johanna & Nicholas, Zachary & Alexander, Jenna, Jonathan & Kate.
Ed was born in West Haverstraw, NY to Joseph and Johanna Cordisco. He was preceded in death by his younger brother Vincent and is survived by his older brother Ralph. After graduating in 1940 from Haverstraw High School, Ed served as Corporal in the U.S. Army during WWII. After his discharge, Ed attended the University of Denver and graduated in 1950 with a BS in Business Administration. He worked in New York City before accepting a teaching position in Hawthorne, NV in 1957. It was there that he met the love of his life, Jenny. In 1959, they were married and in 1963, Ed moved his young and growing family to Carson City. Ed taught at Carson High School before employment in various roles at the Nevada State Dept. of Education, retiring in 1982 as the Director of Vocational Education. In his retirement, Ed worked 9 sessions for the NV State Legislature.
Ed’s deep faith helped him serve many ministries at St. Teresa Catholic Church and in the community, including Marriage Encounter, mentoring youth and playing Santa Claus. He loved arranging flowers, cooking, entertaining, painting and travel, especially visiting his globe-trotting children.
Ed Cordisco was full of life and love, and gave his enormous caring heart to everyone around him. Also known as Eddie, Papa, Grandpa, Mussy and Caba, he will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
A celebration of Ed’s love for life will be held at 6pm Saturday August 22, 2015 at St Teresa of Avila Church, 3000 North Lompa Lane, Carson City, Nevada, with a reception in Chartz Hall.
