Barbara Joyce Abernathy

Barbara Joyce Abernathy, age 80, of Euharlee, Georgia, passed away peacefully at her home on March 23, 2025. She was born on November 26, 1944, to the late William Dee Stone and Clora Mae Callahan Plumley.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, John William Abernathy; her stepfather, Arthur "Ott" Plumley; her son-in-law, Jimmy Poole; brother, Billy Stone and her great-grandson, Aiden Meredith.

She is survived by her son, Craig Brown (Rhonda Langley); her daughter, Tammy Poole; her grandchildren, Josh Poole (Christy), LeAnne Williams, Charity Williams (Drew), Callie Everett (Matt), Katie Jo Schumacher (Eric), and Coby Brown; her sister, Betty Woodall; great-grandchildren; Collin Messer, Ella Belle Everett, Kira Meredith, Miley Jo Williams, Camen Matthews, Aaron Matthews, and Rhianna Cole; her great-great-grandson, Grayson Knox Brake; as well as her beloved Pomeranian, Chloe, and many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.

Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family dearly. She retired from Goodyear Mills, and later spent 20 years working at Walmart in Customer Service, where she formed close bonds with her coworkers and enjoyed helping others. Joyce was a woman of Christian faith, who cherished her time spent camping in the Smoky Mountains, reading, and doting on her Pomeranian dogs throughout the years. Her love of cooking, especially for family gatherings, was evident in her special desserts, which she made with each family member’s favorite in mind.

A gathering of family and friends will take place on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Owen Funeral Home. A Celebration of Joyce’s Life will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 2:00 PM, with a family gathering at 1:00 PM, also at Owen Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.

In honoring Joyce's memory, her family will forever remember her selflessness, unwavering love, and the joy she brought to all who knew her.
