Barbara was born on January 7, 1934, in Rome, GA, to the late Charlie Michael Wigington and Velma Marie Caldwell Wigington Hood. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ernest “Hank” Williams; son, Michael Williams; stepfather, Camp Hood; stepmother, Elizabeth Southern Wigington; sister, Betty Wallin; brother-in-law, Lee Wallin and son-in-law, Billy Cannon.
Barbara is lovingly survived by her children, Sandy Williams Cannon, Debra Mason Greene, Sharon Williams Scoggins (Charles), and Darryl Williams; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Barbara grew up in Bartow County and attended Cassville High School, where she was active in the 4-H Club. She cherished her time on the family farm and enjoyed going to the movies as a young girl. Her faith was central to her life; she was deeply joyful when she was saved by her Lord and Savior and made her public profession of faith through baptism.
Though her childhood dream of becoming a nurse did not come to pass, Barbara found pride and fulfillment in her career as a manager at Popeyes Fried Chicken, assistant manager of a convenience store, and in the textile industry, dedicating her efforts to supporting her family.
Barbara was a valued member of the Moose Lodge, VFW, and Amvets in Rome, GA. In her leisure time, she enjoyed macrame, embroidery, sewing, quilting, cooking, and crossword puzzles. She loved to dance, sing karaoke, watch cowboy movies, and share laughter over a good joke. Above all, she was a devoted mother who beamed with pride over her children and grandchildren and their many accomplishments.
Gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025, beginning at 2pm with a celebration of Barbara’s life at 3pm from the chapel of Owen Funeral Home.
Barbara’s warmth, strength, and joy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
