I realize that this entry is very late, but I just today read of Britt's death in the GDA magazine in the dental office where I work. I met "Dr.Gilmer" on his first day at Dr.Smith's office, where I was working as a dental hygienist. What a joy it was to be a part of the beginning of his dental career. Not only was it a blessing to work with Dr. Smith, but it was a blessing to also work with Britt and become friends. Even though I left the office in 1990, I did stay in touch and saw Britt earlier this year on my way through Cartersville. What a great few moments we had laughing about the years gone by. I grieve with all of his family and his patients. He was indeed a wonderful man and I thank God that I was gifted by his caring warmth and friendship. My prayers are with all of you, especially as we approach the holiday seasons.

I still can't believe this wonderful man is gone! For thirty years he has been such a precious friend. He made seeing the dentist just visiting friends. You will forever be in our hearts Dr. G! Love to you family and office family.

My husband and I were visiting family in Idaho when we learned of Dr. Gilmer's passing.....He was a wonderful dentist and always made us feel comfortable in the dentist's chair....Ed has a brand-new crown that Dr. Gilmer just applied two weeks ago.  We appreciate all he did for us over the years and the wonderful staff who worked for him.....Our prayers go with each of his family and associates. Ed and Judy Bruce

This is such a terrible shock.  Dr. Gilmer was my dentist as well as my Mother's for many years.  He was a wonderful dentist and caring friend to all his patients.   We will keep his family and staff in our thoughts and prayers.

I have waited a few days to post a note so I could get my thoughts together. I was truly saddened about the passing of such a beautiful human being so suddenly. I never had the opportunity to visit him on a professional level, being as I haven't lived in Cartersville in some time. But I went to high school with Britt and I would see him occasionally in town when we would come to visit family. I will miss his gentle smile, and as someone else said, his big hugs. It was like hugging warm joy. I have thought of him often, with much love, and will continue to do so. He was my teenage confidant...never too busy to listen to my drama...always had the right things to say. I will miss you, my friend. Love you tons! And I hope God brings peace to your family eventually. You may be gone...but never forgotten. @}~}~(a rose for you)

I always teased Dr. Gilmer each time I seen him in the office or out and about town, "you know I'm your favorite patent." He would chuckle give me a big bear hug and tell me, "you sure are." I'm sure he made each and everyone of his patients feel the same way I did. He was a wonderful doctor.
One of a kind amazing man. LOVED his children with a his heart. I'm deeply saddened for his immediate family & his working family. I know they to feel blessed to know him. He ask me on one visit how I was. I replied "I'm turning 50 & feel I have no purpose in life. Your here to help people feel better. I just don't know what my purpose is. He smiled in his warm smile and said, " don't say that you always make me smile when I see you." I'll carry that with me always. I will think of him often & fondly along with his smile, his laugh & big bear hugs. He not only was my doctor but my friend. Good-bye Dr. G

I will miss Britt who was a friend before my dentist but made our friendship grow through each visit.  For someone who disliked the dentist growing up, he made it easy to come in by having the best staff.  I wish every doctor knew how to hide the needle as well as Britt did. There will never be another like him.

Dr. Britt Gilmer was a very special man. Dentist, beloved father, son, brother, uncle and....friend. We will miss him very much. Britt truly had a good heart and was a blessing to those who lives he touched. We will carry his love and friendship in our hearts. Dear friend, we will miss your friendship and love, but we will smile when we think of you........with the smile you gave us.

I used to say to my girls, "I think we're their favorite little family." Then I would follow-up with what I knew was the TRUTH: "EVERY family feels that way." Dr. Gilmer and his staff had a way of making ALL OF US feel loved - just like family. I loved him and I am so thankful that he knew it.

I am so sorry to learn of the loss of Britt. He and his family will be on our minds in our prayers.  Britt was a such a great and charismatic man, he will be missed by many.

I think Dr. Britt was the reason I always loved going to the dentist.  He taught me from a very young age not to be afraid and even to enjoy each visit.  Now I realize it wasn't just because he was a good dentist, he was also a good person who truly cared about each patient.  Thank you, Dr. Britt, for caring so much.

Dr. Gilmer was truly one of a kind.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.  In the words of our nine year old, "He was a good person!"  May God be with the Gilmer family and the Family Dental Associates staff during this untimely loss.

It is hard for me to imagine finding another dentist that exhibited the compassion that Britt showed his patients. Our family has been seeing Dr. Gilmer for almost 20 years. He had become more than our dentist, he was our friend. My father was in need of a heart transplant and before he could be placed on the waiting list he needed quite a bit of dental work. The illness that caused the heart issue had already drained their finances. Britt did all of my dads work for free. He was a blessing to our entire family and he will be greatly missed. They just don't make them like that anymore!

Dr. Gilmer was our dentist for over 20 years.  We are saddened by his passing and send our deepest condolences to his family and friends.Peace, Prayers and Blessings.

We were sorry to hear of Dr. Gilmers death. He was such an inspiration to us when we visited him at the Dentist office. He always had encouraging words to say. He will be missed.

Dr. Gilmer will be so missed.  I have been going to him for over 25 yrs.  He always talked about his children  and how involved he was.  I am so bummed to be having to find another denitst.  I feel like I have also lost a friend.  My sympathies are with his family.

 I am so shocked and saddened to hear of Dr. Gilmer's sudden passing. He always had such a warm, heartfelt smile, and genuine concern for his patients.  I will miss his stories, his infectious laugh throughout the office and all the joking they all did.

Betty Jo and Family, I am so saddened to hear of Britt's untimely passing!  Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you.  Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Britt will miss him.

Through the years he has gone out of his way for us (even coming into his office on 4th of July) to do emergency dental work.  He loved his children and often shared his joy with us. I am so saddened to hear about Britt.  We have been friends since high school. It was a blessing to come back to Cartersville and find someone to take care of my family as our dentist. Britt has helped us through so many things.  I will miss him.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Dr. Gilmer's family at this time of loss. I knew him from working at Animal Medical Center where he brought his buddy "Chase" to see us. Dr Gilmer was such a sweet and caring person, and loved his puppy so much, that when his health was in jepordy, he willingly gave Chase to my neice and her family so he could get the attention he needed. Chase has been a godsend to my neice, as he has helped her get over her fear of dogs. It was a very selfless thing to do, but I know it hurt him deeply. Dr. Gilmer, along with his sense of humor,  will be greatly missed.

Dr. Gilmer was a great man and a great dentist. I will miss his friendly smile and the stories of how he watched me grow up. This was indeed a shock!

 I was so shocked and saddened to hear
of Dr. Gilmer's passing. He was so much more than a great dentist,he was a great friend. Family, my prayers are with you during this difficult time.

From our family to the family and office staff of Dr Britt Gilmer we send our condolences. Dr Gilmer set the example for compassion and care delivered, caring not only for our dental needs but also the whole person. An appointment with Dr Gilmer was actually like visiting a family friend. He will be deeply missed.

My deepest sympathy to the family. Britt became our family dentist when he started taking over some of Dr. Smith's younger patients. My son, Ricky Grizzle, was about 6 or 7 at the time. His is now 31. I loved his sense of humor and his way with children so much that I soon started using him as my dentist also. We not only thought of him as our dentist but also as a dear friend. He will be sadly missed. Our prayers go out to his family on this very sad day.

Larry and I are deeply saddened to learn of Dr. Gilmer's untimely passing. He had been our dentist for many, many years and we also considered him our friend. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family. He will be missed.
