Born and raised in the Cartersville area, Herbert led a full life. He was an airplane and engine mechanic for the 307th Bombardment group for the Army Air Forces as a Sergeant. During World War II, he was stationed at Guadalcanal and was honorably discharged in 1945. Later in life, he was a Baptist preacher and prior to retirement, was a mechanic/inspector at Lockheed Martin in Marietta, Georgia. Rev. Richards was lovingly known as “Pop” to his family.
Herbert held his relationship with the Lord close to his heart and was a true servant by winning many souls for Christ. Also near and dear to Herbert was his precious wife of fifty-eight years, Dorothy Wyolene “Billie” Moss Richards.
In addition to his wife, Rev. Calvin Herbert Richards is preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Mullinax and a son, Randy Richards. He is survived by daughter- in- law, Ann Richards; grandchildren, Kent (Joni) Mullinax, Keri (James) Mullinax Greene, Misty Richards, and Brandy (Jeremy) Drawdy; great grandchildren, Zac Mullinax, Reagan Mullinax, Ava Mullinax, Dakota Richards, Tyler Drawdy, and Rhett Drawdy. The family would like to give a special thanks to his loving caregivers of fourteen years at Waldrop Residences. Those who knew and loved “Pop” knew of his love for Coca-Cola. It is the family’s sincere wish that whenever you have a Coke, fondly remember Herbert.
