Carolyn Charlene Hightower passed away on December 19, 2025. She was born in Bartow County on October 12, 1941 and was the second of 11 children of Reverend Johnson Hightower and Annie Inez Floyd Hightower.
She was a very talented seamstress and would gaze into the windows of Stein's Clothing Store and draw a picture of an expensive dress that she couldn't afford to buy. Then she bought the material and made the dress.
Carole attended Cass High School and excelled in all of her studies and loved to act in high school plays. She was a member of the Beta Club when she graduated in 1959. After graduation and a short time at EZ Mills, she decided to be a nurse and began her studies at Coosa Valley Tech to be an LPN and then Kennesaw College to become a Registered Nurse. She began her career at R.T. Jones Memorial Hospital in Canton.
Canton is where she met her future husband, Harold Harris, and they had two sons, Jeffrey and Kevin and grandchildren: Tyler Harris, Nick Peters, Kristin Weaver, Jacob, and Eliza Harris; and great-grandchildren: Asher and Adeline Harris. Carole was a loving and devoted Mother and Grandmother (“Nanny”).
Carole was a long-time member of Christian Fellowship Church and the Bartow County Senior Center and loved to sing with them.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Hightower and nephews, Randall Scott Freeman and Gregg Hightower.
Carole has always had a soft heart and helped people in her path, whoever they may be.
She was so funny and smart and has always loved Jesus and her family. She never missed family gatherings because they were important to her.
We will never have to wonder if we will see her again because she has loved God with all her heart and her neighbor as herself and that’s all He requires of any of us.
We are very sure He will say well done to her when she sees Him.
We will be at a great loss without her and she leaves this world a better place than she found it.
She will be forever in our hearts. Your family loves you so very much!
Carole will be mourned and missed by many, especially her children, grandchildren and her siblings: Markeeta Freeman, Anne Cooney, Cozette Hightower, Ronnie Hightower, Sue Gossett, David Hightower, Cindy Holland, Lisa Weldon, and Sherrie Tyler.
Visitation will be Friday, December 26, from 5 until 7pm.
Funeral will be Saturday, December 27 at 1pm.
Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
Owen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
