

Born on October 4, 1949, in Los Angeles, California, Don was raised in Monrovia, California, by his late parents, Evelyn (Hilda) Schmer and Raymond Schmer. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Mark Schmer and Wayne Schmer, and his sister, Marilyn Schmer, his mother-in-law, Daisy Michaeli, and his father-in-law, Cor/Neil Hagers.
Don was a strong, hardworking, and loving man who served his country with pride and honor as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His sense of duty and resilience carried through every aspect of his life.
He built a fulfilling career in civil engineering as a CAD designer, contributing his talents across multiple states including California, Nevada, Colorado, Hawaii, and Georgia. Outside of his profession, Don found great joy in restoring classic cars and attending car shows, a passion that reflected both his craftsmanship and appreciation for timeless beauty.
Above all, Don cherished time spent with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of more than 45 years, Ruby Lynn Schmer; his daughter, Katarina; his son-in-law, Matt; and his three adored “grand peeps,” Zan, Ollie, and Penny. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon Susann, and his mother-in-law, Ine Hagers.
Don’s life was one of quiet strength, enduring love, and unwavering commitment to those he held dear. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
