Dorothy "Dot" Summey Sanford

Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Summey Sanford, 87, of Cartersville, GA passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 23, 2018. Dot was born in Cartersville, GA to the late Mr. W. Andrew Summey and Mrs. Lola Wilson Summey on October 29, 1930.

Dot was the devoted wife of the late Harold Sanford and loving mother of five children, grandmother of seven, and great-grandmother of two and she was also the spiritual mother of many. Dot was a real estate agent for 36 years with Asher Realty. Dot was a devoted member of Liberty Square Church. She was a Prayer Warrior who helped established The National Day of Prayer in Bartow County and mentor to countless people. She loved her family, her church and most of all, Jesus her savior.

Dot is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 68 years, Harold Sanford, sister, Jo Ellen Lane, brothers; Grady Summey and Ellison "Shell" Summey, grandchildren; Tracey and Tyra Gossett, and great-granddaughter, Destiny Gossett.

She is survived by her children, Wallace Sanford (Melinda), Sue Sanford, Sharon Wilson (Don), Grady Sanford (Serena) and Tricia Jordan (Terry), grandchildren; Corey Sanford (Diane), Justin Sanford (Heidi), Andrew Wilson (Brandy), Brandon Sanford and Carmen Jordan, great-grandchildren; Elizabeth and Kennedy Sanford, sister, Frankie Barnwell (Charlie) and brother-in-law, Lee Lane, special nephew, Rick Summey (Vivian). Many other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive to cherish Dot's memory.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted Friday, May 25, 2018 at two o'clock in the afternoon at The Church at Liberty Square. Dot will lie in state at the church from 1:30 until the service hour. Officiating will be Rev. Jacob King. Serving as pallbearers will be: Justin Sanford, Andrew Wilson, Brandon Sanford, Travis Popham, Tim Baird and John Takcas. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Cartersville, GA.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 in the evening until eight Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Owen Funeral Home.
