Freddy Erwin Lewis Sr.

Mr. Erwin was born on November 16, 1946 in Bartow County, son of the late Hubert J.P. Lewis and Bonnie D. Bradley Lewis.

A car accident in 1977 left him a paraplegic and in the neighborhood he became known as “Fast Freddy”. Before the accident, he was in the Marine Reserves for six years where he served as sergeant and received honorable discharge. He also worked for American Freight, where he was a payroll clerk. Freddy loved competing in water skiing, karate and was an avid deer hunter. After the accident, he went to college where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and for a short time, also studied law. Freddy was very interested in politics and loved the presidential debates. He was always up to date on county and state politics. You could always count on Freddy to write letters to the editor of the Cartersville Daily Tribune, where many of his letters were published.

He is preceded in death by his son, Freddy Lewis, Jr.; brother, Hubert Leon Lewis; a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is survived by his nieces, Susan Gipson of White, GA, Stephanie (Jerry) House of White, GA, Heather (Steve) Winklemann of Pineville, NC; his lifetime friend, Jerry (Lavern)Bennett of White, GA; great niece, Rachel Gipson and her fiancé Matt Stark, both of Cartersville; great nephews, Josh Gipson and Will House of White, GA Patrick Gipson of Peace valley, MO and Barrett Winkelmann of Pineville, NC; great-great niece, Mychaela Gipson; great-great nephews, Dawson and Tristen Stark all of Cartersville, GA; uncle, Hugh (Helen)Bradley of Cartersville; a number of cousins.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at two o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, February 6, 2016 in the Chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Josh James, Rev. Joey Phillips and Rev. Dewey Atchley officiating.

Serving as pallbearers are Jerry Bennett, Jerry House, Josh Gipson, Will House, Manuel Abernathy and Gary Bradley.

Visitation will be held from five o’clock in the evening until eight on Friday, February 5, 2016 at Owen Funeral Home.
