Janice Smith Dabbs

Janice Smith Dabbs went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at the age of 83. Janice was born February 2, 1942, and was a lifelong resident of Cartersville, Georgia. She was a proud member of the Cartersville High School class of 1960 and later a graduate of the Massey Business School. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert Eugene Dabbs, on June 4, 1961. She grew up attending Gilmer Street Baptist Church, later joined Tabernacle Baptist Church, and was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church at the time of her passing.

Janice was very active in her church and community for many years. She loved singing in the church choir, playing golf, gardening, travel, and attending all her grandchildren’s activities – especially baseball and softball games. Her children fondly remember the elaborate Christmas decorations that filled their home and often remarked their mom created a “Southern Living” Christmas each year. She was an Associate Real Estate Broker and proudly operated Dabbs Realty along with her husband until retirement in 2009.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband of almost 62 years, Robert Dabbs, and her parents, L. C. and Kathryn Newberry Smith. She is survived by her children Regina Cox (Craig), Laurie Gayton (Tim), Brian Dabbs (Patches) all of Cartersville and her grandchildren Josh Daniel (Melissa), Luke Daniel (Jessica), Hunter Osborn, Harrison Osborn (Autumn), Victoria Hilton (Logan), Chaz Bragg, Carlee Bragg (Victoria), Jerry Gayton (Ashley), Jessica House (Preston), Jennifer Gayton along with seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her special sister- in-love, Janice Hill.

The family would also like to thank the staff of Cartersville Crossing, who lovingly cared for Mrs. Dabbs for many years.

A celebration of life for Janice Smith Dabbs will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 2 PM in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home, 12 Collins Drive, Cartersville, with her grandson, Josh Daniel, officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until the funeral hour. Pallbearers will include grandsons, Luke Daniel, Hunter Osborn, Harrison Osborn, Chaz Bragg, Logan Hilton, and nephew, Mark Hill.
