

Mr. John Venable Linn Jr., 76, beloved husband of 54 years of Eleanor Wright Linn, entered into heavenly rest on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010. Mr. Linn was born in Atlanta, GA on Jan. 8, 1934 to John Venable Linn Sr., of LaGrange, GA and the late Elizabeth Wells Linn. He graduated from Atlanta’s Brown High School and the Georgia Institute of Technology where he received a BS in Textile Engineering.
Mr. Linn served his country as an officer in the United States Navy, receiving flight training in Pensacola, FL and also serving as an Assistant Legal Officer. He was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 21 years, working in a variety of positions in numerous locations in the eastern U.S., including Cartersville, Georgia. Following his work with Goodyear, he was a professor at Southern Polytechnic Institute and Georgia Tech, teaching textile engineering and other related courses. John also worked as a quality and productivity consultant before and after his retirement from Southern Poly Tech.
John was a lifelong Presbyterian, serving as a Deacon and Elder in various churches. Most recently he was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rome, GA. His interests also include being an Eagle Scout, a licensed pilot, fishing, reading and all things patriotic.
Mr. Linn is survived by his daughter Valerie Linn Johnson of Auburn, AL and husband Phil; his sons Jay (John V. Linn III) and wife Linda of Cartersville and Mark Linn and wife Sandra of Roswell, GA; Grandsons Tyler and Hayes Linn of Cartersville; step-grandchildren Lauren Wilson and Rob of Austell, GA; Sarah Stewart and Stephen of Huntsville, AL and Patrick Harney of Roswell, GA; sister Jackie L. Jones and brother-in-law Terrell Jones of LaGrange, GA and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Rome, Georgia; 101 East Third Avenue, Rome, GA 30161 or to the American Cancer Society.
The family will receive friends at Owen Funeral Home on Sunday evening, Sept. 12 from 5-7 pm. A Celebration Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, Sept. 13 at the First Presbyterian Church of Rome.
