JE was a big part of my growing up years in Emerson. We missed church last Sunday and didn’t learn of his passing until the night after his funeral. We were shocked and saddened and can only hope Sue and the family will forgive our absence from any of  his services. When I was a boy JE was involved in seemingly every aspect of life at Emerson Baptist Church. He was the song leader for some years and my mind always pictures him leading and singing “Heavenly Sunshine”. He seemed to lead the singing with happiness flooding out of him. He was always a joyful man and he influenced at least one generation of young men thru the church. We all loved him and going to “JE’s Lake” for an afternoon was one of our greatest treats. He was a man who will forever be missed.

JE and Sue were our song leaders and pianists from Emerson Baptist Church. These times are some of my first memories of being in church.  All through the years, our family grew close to them and others in the church because they opened their "lake" for us to all camp there. Most weekends were spent around a campfire, hearing my parents and their friends tell funny stories and laughing. Thank you to the Tumlin's for giving us such special times. 

Wonderful follower of Jesus Christ who  no doubt laid up many treasures in heaven.   His Christian influence began with his family and reached out to this community and beyond.   A true model of living the abundant life.   A skilled and gifted man received from a Higher Power and not kept only to himself but shared  with others.   A man of many riches of which this world can't corrupt.  A life well lived.

I was his bug man while I worked for CandC. It was always a good visit every time I sprayed. He always told the best stories . Made sure to make it my last stop so I could talk as long as I wanted too. He is somebody who I think about a lot since I left that job.

One of the most wonderful Christian men I have ever met.

I’m so sorry to hear of J.E.’s passing.  I’ve known the two of you many years, but something still puts a smile on my face is when the morning worship service was televised and y’all always came in and sit right in the front.  Just seeing him, I believe he never missed a word in a hymn nor a word out of rev Yarbrough’s message.  I know you’re really going to miss him.  Will be praying for you Sue 🙏🏼🙏🏼

I loved Mr. J. E.! I remember him and Mrs. Sue always sitting on the left side of the church, down front. He grew some of the best tomatoes, and he always had a sack for anyone who wanted one! He was a godly Christian man who many admired! ❤️

Growing up I never had a grandfather, I had a PawPaw! He filled those shoes perfectly! He was kind, sweet, gentle and very loving. He would say “May the good Lord take a liking to you”. He was a character. His laugh was great! His “one liners” will be with me till I leave this world.  Oh how I will miss this man. The times he would just choose to sit right beside you and love on you!  I’ll miss you, pinky ponky! 

J.E. was always more than an Uncle to me. I considered him like a second dad. I enjoyed the times I spent with him, Aunt Sue, and all the family. I will miss him. But I know he will be waiting on us to join him as he is in the arms of the Lord. I love you Uncle J.E.

He was always a very loving man and shared God's love with everyone.  Precious memories of his singing at our wedding. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
