Karen Lucila Mercado

Karen is preceded in death by her grandparents; Abelardo Mercado, María Lucila Orellana Guerra, Medardo Arriaga, María Arriaga. She is survived by her daughter, Jaylene Rodriguez; parents, Abelardo Mercado and Argelia Arriaga; sister, Wendy Hernandez; brother, Abelardo Mercado; niece; Dacia Vasquez; nephews; Joshua Mercado, Aiden Hernandez, and Nathan Hernandez.

Karen was a vibrant, independent woman who built a life full of love, strength, and passion. She was known for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering support for her family and friends. Throughout her life, Karen's kindness and joyful spirit touched the hearts of everyone she met. Her laughter was contagious, and her ability to bring people together was truly special. She had an innate ability to brighten a room and make others feel seen and valued.

Karen was proud of her accomplishments, especially her independence, having worked hard to purchase her own home—a place she absolutely loved, where she created countless memories and found peace. Her greatest accomplishment, however, was raising her daughter Jaylene. She loved her more than anything in this world and was proud of the woman she was becoming. Karen’s heart was as big as her sense of adventure. She was an avid lover of the outdoors, enjoying hiking, fishing, and immersing herself in the beauty of nature. She found great solace in quiet moments at home, often with her beloved dogs, Ruby and Hope, by her side. Ruby and Hope were not just pets, but an inseparable part of Karen’s life, offering her love and companionship each day. Her presence will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lupus Foundation of America in order to honor Karen’s memory.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Monday, January 20, 2025 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Mario Arjona officiating. The interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive family and friends on Sunday, January 19, 2025 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
