Mary was born June 22, 1935 in Cartersville, GA. She attended school in Cartersville, and graduated from the “New” Cartersville High School in 1954. She married Larry Mac in 1955. They raised three boys. starting in Atco and then in several other areas around Cartersville.
Mary worked many jobs to help support her family including Cartersville High School, Chemical Products Corporation, and the Bartow County Sherriff’s Office from which she retired at the youthful age of 80!
Mary was a long-time member of Tabernacle Baptist. Her parents lived across the street from it, and her grandfather helped build the original Worship Center. She and husband Mac were very active leading the youth at church. Mary was one of the original members of the TV Ministry. She was very active in the church, working in the Bread of Life ministry, with her Life Group class until her health began to limit her ability to attend.
More than anything, Mary loved God, Jesus, the church, and ministering to others. We can’t begin to list all the people she helped either financially, by giving clothes or food, or by just offering a kind word of encouragement, card, or a phone call. Her testimony was a “Life Style evangelism” – if someone couldn’t tell you were a Christian by the way you acted you should really think about your choices. In the hospital, she made sure her nurse was a Christian, and in the operating room she prayed with the anesthesiologist and surgeon. Unconditional love is what she showed. In jail, in trouble, made dumb decisions? She would tell you what you did wrong, how to fix it, and love you anyway. To others she would say “You don’t really mean that do you?” and you would realize “No. That is just anger talking.”
Someone asked how many people we expected at the funeral. We told them we had no idea, Mary’s dad was from a family of 9, and her mom was from a family of 8. If every relative showed up, Tabernacle wouldn’t be large enough and overflow rooms would have to be set up.
As sad as it is and as much as we are going to miss her, Mary is Home and in a body that works and is free from all earthly aches and pains.
