
Melissa Hughes Duncan of Cartersville, Ga. passed away at home on May 9, 2016. She was born in Newport News, Virginia on March 25, 1951 and moved with her family to Cobb County when she was 3 ½ years old. Melissa grew up in Smyrna, graduated from Campbell High School and attended North Georgia College.
She made hundreds of friends throughout her life, known for her honesty, a great sense of humor, joy for life and her love for helping and loving others. She loved her family, friends, church and most of all loved to laugh.
Melissa was an excellent gourmet cook that won several awards for her creations. She traveled to Italy and attended a cooking school. She had her own catering business for a while. She also enjoyed making art objects with items she collected on her many walks out in nature.
Melissa is survived by her husband of 25 years, Mickey Duncan, her mother Maidy Hughes, her daughter Cindy Zipperer and granddaughter Claire. Brothers Mike Hughes of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Jeff Hughes and sister in law Lisa of Cartersville, Ga., Bart Hughes and sister in law Cathy of Dallas, TX. Nieces and nephews Brook Raash, Barkley Hughes, Jake Hughes, Haley Hughes, Heath Hughes and Hope Hughes who absolutely adored her.
The Memorial services will be held at Faith United Methodist Church, 501 Grassdale Road, Cartersville, Ga. 30121 on Sunday June 5th at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers send donations to the Cancer Research Institute or American Cancer Society in memory of Melissa.
