Michael Deryl Sweat

Mike was born on May 6, 1944 in Atlanta, GA, son of the late Deryl and Clara Sweat.

Mike Sweat was a loving husband of 23 years to Yvonne Wilson Sweat. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and he especially enjoyed being a great-grandfather.

Although Mike was a man of small stature he was a giant for God with unwavering faith. He was dedicated and faithful in everything he did. He had a Servant’s Heart, one of his joys in life was helping others in any way he could.

He was always the first to volunteer for any job. He was a member of Christian Fellowship Church where he was deacon, usher, youth leader and leader of Young At Heart Adult Ministry. He was always at the door greeting everyone with a sweet smile and warm handshake.

Mike was a Private in the Army Reserves from November 28,1969 – January 14,1974. Mike graduated from Georgia Tech with a Bachelor of Science in 1968 and Master of Electrical Engineering in 1984. After he graduated, he was employed with Georgia Power/Southern Company, where he worked for 43 years.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne Sweat; daughter, Tracy (Richard) Theriault; sons, Marty (Kenya) Teems, Sr., Shawn (JJ) Teems, Kyle (Carla) Teems; nine grandchildren, Haley Theriault, Marty (Candace) Teems, Jr., Katelyn (Michael) Slater, Montana (Emily) Teems, Maddox Teems, MaLaney Teems, Marlo Teems, Clark (Gabi) Teems and Madeline (Josh) Bolton; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Bob (Debbie) Sweat; sisters, Connie (Jack) Payne and Debbie (Rick) Kiker; brother-in-law, Gary (Cheryl) Wilson; niece; Dawn Wilson-Kilgore.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 29th of July, 2022 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Jody Cagle officiating. The service will be live streamed VIA the Owen Funeral Home FaceBook page. Interment will immediately follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.

Serving as pallbearers are Marty Teems, Jr., Clark Teems, Michael Slater, Ed Hamilton, Ebert Escobar and Kyle Teems.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family for one hour prior to service time at Owen Funeral Home.
