Peter John Wenzell Sr.

Peter John Wenzell, Sr. of Cartersville, GA passed away after a long illness on January 16, 2020. Peter was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 25, 1958 to Philip and Virginia Wenzell and grew up in the Grosse Pointe Woods area. He attended the University of Michigan and graduated from Michigan State University. He was a member of both schools’ hockey teams, and he remained an avid hockey fan and sports enthusiast throughout his life.

After college, Peter moved to Atlanta, GA and began his career in the airport concession business. He was CEO/President of International Restaurant Management Company, and a partner in MSE Branded Food Systems. During his career, he developed and implemented many innovative practices in use in the industry today.

He is survived by his wife, Adele Wenzell, sons, Peter John Wenzell, Jr., and Patrick Christopher Wenzell and his wife, McKenzie Hendrix Wenzell, daughters, Lane Wenzell and Lauren Wenzell, stepsons, Byron and Brandon Wafrock, grandchildren, Lennon and Hartley Hodges, and Vale Wafrock. In addition, Peter is survived by his brother, Philip Wenzell, and sister, Priscilla Hector, along with several nieces and nephews. His family was his heart, and he was the heart of his family.

Peter was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. His life-long friendships were built on a foundation of loyalty, laughter and devotion to people he had known since childhood. This love was reciprocated and demonstrated as his closest friends gathered to support him, and his family, as he fought a courageous battle against pain and paralysis with grace, humor and dignity. He was so much more than mere words can express, but his indomitable spirit and love for life, and his love for family and friends will live in the hearts of all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at NorthStar Church, 3413 Blue Springs Road, Kennesaw, GA 30144 on Tuesday, January 21, 2020. The family will receive visitors at 1:00 p.m. followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow.
