Robert Ed Hicks

Mr. Hicks was born October 16, 1936 in Bartow County the son of the late, R.B. and Mildred (Wilson) Hicks. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, he served as a Councilman on the Cartersville City Council from 1970-1974, was President of the Cartersville Little League from 1992-1995, was a member of the City of Cartersville Planning Commission from May 6, 1999 until December 7, 2010 and he was sworn in on the Tax Equalization Board on December 13, 1999 and served on the Board from January 1, 2000 until his death on May 29, 2012. He served as Chairman for many of these years.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Hicks, daughter and son in law, Robin and Curt Jolly, four grandchildren, Erika Ann Brown, Steven Ford Brown, Joseph Curt Jolly, Robert Thomas Jolly, a great grandchild, Cayden Nicholas Brown, two half- brothers, Jimmy Lee Hicks of North Carolina, Jerome Hicks of Virginia and aunts, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 1, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Hatcher officiating and Joe Tilley delivering the eulogy.

Burial will follow in Zion Hill Baptist church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Steven Brown, Joseph Jolly and Thomas Jolly, Jerry Jones, Joe Jolly, Jeffrey Ross, Steven Smith and Leonard Huey.

Honorary pallbearers are Keith Walker, Steve Wade, Hoss Hobgood, Gary Bell and Tara Nix.
