

Thelma Dupree Kimmons, age 93 of Acworth, passed from this life to her heavenly home on Sunday, December 6, 2020. She was born March 2, 1927 to Jim Dupree and Mickey Webster Dupree. She is survived by her daughter, Gail Kimmons Wilkins of Cartersville; her granddaughter, Tamara Wilkins Brock (Josh); two great granddaughters, Carder and Collins Brock who knew her as “Nana” also of Cartersville; and a number of special nieces and nephews who knew her as “Aunt Tam”.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Prescott Jones Kimmons; her parents; her brother Henry Dupree (Leone); her sisters, Ollie Dupree Wilbur (Clemon); Grace Dupree White (Claude); Alice Dupree Dunn (Ralph); beloved son-in-law, Dr. Stan Wilkins; and several nieces and nephews.
Thelma had a servant’s heart which was evident in her service to her church, her friends, her family, and her community. She was a member of the Acworth Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Stars and a longtime member of New Hope Baptist Church where she taught the Loyal Ladies Sunday School Class and led the “Joyful Seniors” group for many years. She enjoyed gardening, canning and freezing fruits and vegetables, and baking. She knew everyone’s favorite cake and made sure they received it for every special occasion.
She enjoyed traveling with family and friends and reached her goal of visiting all 50 states. Her favorite places were the national parks of the Northwest. She especially enjoyed spending time with her great granddaughters. She worked for many years in retail retiring from Big Star Grocery in 1980.
A graveside service will be held for family with the Reverend Paul Battles officiating. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the spring of 2021. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the New Hope Baptist Church Senior Ministry or to the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
