Wanda Joyce Cornelius

Mrs. Cornelius was born on February 7, 1946 in Cartersville, daughter of the late Lonnie Cornelius and Eunice Bennett Cornelius.

Mrs. Cornelius graduated from Cass High School and still met on a regular basis with some of her classmates. After graduating high school, she attended the University of Georgia. She retired from Bellsouth as a supervisor after thirty dedicated years of service. Mrs. Cornelius was a very proud and active member of the Cartersville Red Hat Society where she cherished her time with her fellow “Flirty Gerties”. In her spare time she enjoyed dancing. She will be most remembered as the most wonderful Aunt in the world to anyone that knew her. She had a huge heart and loved to take care of those around her. She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Ronald and Emory Cornelius; sisters, Rebecca Cash and Lynn Looney; sister-in-law, Louise Cornelius;

Survivors include her sisters, Pat Cornett of Cartersville and Laverne Williams (Rob) of Gainesville, FL; sisters-in-law, Martha Cornelius of Cartersville; nieces and nephews, Karen Fortenberry (Carey ) of Cartersville, Stephen Cash of Cartersville, Brad Cornelius (Jennifer) of PA, Paula Brown (Kevin) of KY, Jason Rogers (Leigh) of Cartersville, Kevin Cornett of Cartersville, Keith Cornett of Cartersville, Kelli Doolittle (Dan) of Cartersville, Jennifer Clark (Jeremy) of Cartersville, Alisha McGinnis (David) of Dalton, GA, Jon Looney of Cartersville, Melinda Watson and Allen Cornelius, both of Rockmart; many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at two o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 in the Chapel of Owen Funeral Home.

A visitation will be held for two hours prior to service time at Owen Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions made to the Cancer Society.
