Wayne graduated from Cartersville High School in 1966, where he left a lasting legacy as the accomplished quarterback, donning the number 10 jersey and earning the title of Most Valuable Player his senior year. Shortly after his initial studies at the University of Tennessee, Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1968. He proudly served his country until 1971, stationed in the breathtaking but challenging terrains above the Arctic Circle in Alaska. Upon his honorable discharge, Wayne returned home and graduated with an associate's degree in Carpentry from Atlanta Area Tech. Wayne's skilled hands and keen eye for detail led to a distinguished career in carpentry, leaving his mark on numerous historic homes and commercial buildings throughout downtown Cartersville.
An unwavering Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves fan, Wayne spent countless hours cheering for his teams and even attended several SEC Championship games with his buddies. His hobbies extended beyond the stadiums as he enjoyed snow skiing, was a passionate gardener renowned for his Cherokee Purple Heirloom tomatoes, and a woodworking aficionado who could create wonders with wood.
Perhaps Wayne's most enduring legacy is the joy he brought to family gatherings, where his great sense of humor and constant smile were always present. He loved his family unwaveringly, especially his grandchildren, always eager to share in their lives and create lasting memories. Wayne Baker’s legacy of love, laughter, and craftsmanship will continue to brighten the lives of all he touched for generations to come
