

Albert “Beater” Zan Pulliam Jr. went home to be with Jesus Wednesday at Wakemed Cary after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Roxboro, N.C., and graduated from Roxboro High School in 1960 along with a unique set of classmates that are still extremely close today. He attended Elon University and began his career with Law Engineering. Later he helped build Shearon Harris Nuclear Plant, continuing his career with Carolina Power & Light, Progress Energy, retiring from Duke Energy. He enjoyed all types of music and loved to dance. One of his favorite things to do was to go fishing with his grandkids.
He married Marie Hicks in 1973, celebrating 50 years of marriage in June. He greatly loved and cared for his family and friends for the rest of his days.
He is predeceased by his parents Neva and Zan Pulliam and his sister Lynda Owen.
He is survived by his wife Marie Hicks Pulliam. His son, Matthew Zan Pulliam (wife Jessica Strickland Pulliam) and his daughter Austin Hicks Pulliam (Fiancé Samuel Brown). His beloved grandchildren aka “The Noise”: Zan Allen Pulliam, Ellie Aleine Pulliam, and Lanie Belle Pulliam.
“Ribbit Ribbit, Pops, we love you!” While we rejoice that he is no longer suffering, he will be greatly missed here. We have joy in our hearts knowing that we will see him again!
Visitation will be Saturday, July 22 at 1:00 pm. A Celebration of Life service will be Saturday, July 22 at 2:00 pm. Both will be at Saint Francis United Methodist Church 2965 Kildaire Farm Rd., Cary, NC 27518.
