Born in Boston, Massachusetts, she lost both parents at a young age and was raised by
relatives James and Geraldine Smith of West Roxbury and Scituate, Massachusetts.
A graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy in Brighton, Massachusetts, her first job was an
executive assistant in the City of Boston’s Treasury Department. There, she met her future
husband: James J. Hyde of Boston. He was deputy city treasurer at the time of his death in
1986.
A stay-at-home parent while her children attended school in Braintree, Massachusetts, Alice
returned to the workforce as an executive assistant – first, at an insurance agency in
Braintree and later for the Massachusetts State Lottery.
Upon retirement, she relocated to Cary, and after stays in Chicago, Illinois and Wilmington,
North Carolina, returned to Cary as a resident of Waltonwood Cary Parkway.
Independent and outspoken to the last, she had a lifelong love of shopping, travel and dogs
and in her later years enjoyed doing word puzzles and watching movies. Like her husband, she
enjoyed being near the water and the family spent much time on Cape Cod and at Lake
Ossipee, New Hampshire.
She is survived by her son Jay and his wife, Anne, of Sarasota, Florida daughter Paula Deacy
and her husband Brian, of Cary, two grandchildren, Kate Firrincieli and Brett Deacy, grandsonin-
law Mike Firrincieli and a great-granddaughter, Ava Firrincieli.
Alice’s family extends special thanks to her former caregiver, Gail Leed of Apex, as well as to
the staff of Waltonwood Cary Parkway.
There will be a private funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA
of Wake County.
