Betsy Miller Lane entered the Kingdom of Heaven on January 21, 2025. She was born in Wilson, NC, to parents Charles and Alice Miller. Betsy graduated from Atlantic Christian College in Wilson with an Education degree. Early in her teaching career in Edenton, NC, Betsy married her college sweetheart, Edward Lane. After Ed’s service with the Army, they moved to Spring Hope, NC, and then Cary, NC. During her career Betsy taught first grade at Cary Elementary School, Swift Creek Elementary School, and Henry Adams Elementary School. She retired from teaching first grade at AV Baucom Elementary School in Apex, NC.
Betsy is survived by her dear brother, Charles Miller and his wife, Linda, of Wilson, NC; Betsy and Ed’s children, Dawn Lane Evans (Craig) of Exton, PA, Faith Lane Johnson (John deceased) of Etowah, NC, Brent Lane (Deborah Watts) of Holly Springs, NC, and Hope Lane of St. Petersburg, FL; former daughter-in-law Robin G. Lane of Morrisville, NC; grandchildren, Sarah, Molly (Kenrick Hartman), Ali, Alexandria (Ted Strong), Aubrie (Tadd Butler), Ben, Walker, Ad; and five great-grandchildren Miller, Sierra, Gaston, Landon, and Grayson.
The Lane Family was active in the Cary First Baptist Church where Betsy enjoyed fellowship with the other ladies in the Ruth Sunday School class. Betsy was a long-time member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority for women educators.
Betsy shared her love of birds and flowers with everyone! Many people have had their day brightened with a visit to her garden and bird oasis or when gifted with a floral arrangement. Bird watching was the Lane family’s favorite backyard fun. Married to an avid fisherman and camping enthusiast, Betsy enjoyed this outdoor time with her family near a variety of waterfronts. Whether in person in the stands, or at home watching on TV with Ed, Betsy enjoyed watching baseball, basketball, hockey, and football! When both finally retired, Betsy and Ed traveled all over the United States, and wintering over many years in Florida. After Ed’s passing, Betsy eventually moved her Southern Charm up north to live with Dawn and Craig in PA. She recently returned to Cary to live near family, friends and memories.
It is Betsy’s wish that this quote be shared with everyone:
“Leave not or speak of me with tears, but laugh and talk of me as though I was beside you.
I loved you so. ‘Twas Heaven here with you”…Marguerite
