

Betty lived a full and substantial life. After graduating from Cary High School in 1957, she graduated from Peace College. Betty began her career in public service as Executive Secretary to Governor Terry Sanford. Later, she served as Assistant Director of the North Carolina Human Relations Commission. Her 38 years of service was recognized throughout the State. Among her many professional awards and honors, Betty was inducted into the Order of the Long Leaf Pine.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Pickett; her mother Mildred Holleman Sandford; her father George Avery Sandford; her maternal grandmother and grandfather, Lenna Mathews Holleman and Carter Wesley Holleman; her paternal grandparents, Frank and Fannie Sandford; all of Cary. Throughout her long life, Betty suffered the sadness caused by the death of her beloved uncles and aunts.
Betty is survived by her devoted brother, George Robert (Bob) Sandford and his wife, Renee; her nephew Grayson Carter (Gray) Sandford and his wife Rachael; and her many cousins.
The family will hold a private gathering to celebrate the life of Betty.
