Bobbie was born August 25, 1937, in Durham County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Maezelle Godwin and spent her childhood in Clayton, North Carolina, where she graduated from Clayton High School.
Bobbie went on to earn her Bachelor's degree from Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, North Carolina. Shortly after college, she married her beloved husband, Clarence Batts, and began a career she deeply cherished as an elementary school teacher. She taught primarily in Wake County, where she formed meaningful relationships with her students and colleagues. Teaching was truly her passion, and she took great pride in exposing her students to new opportunities and experiences that broadened their world.
She had a creative and caring heart, a sharp sense of humor, and an infectious love of laughter. Independent and carefree in spirit, she embraced life fully. She loved traveling, especially to the costal areas of the Carolinas. In her quieter moments, she enjoyed reading, watching movies, and working in her yard, which she kept immaculately. She was known for her warmth, her deep friendships, and her fondness for the color purple.
Bobbie will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, a dedicated educator, and a woman whose life made a lasting difference in the hearts of many. Her legacy lives on through the lives she touched and the love she shared so freely.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Ray Batts, Sr., and parents Lawrence and Maezelle Godwin.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Bobbie leaves to cherish her memories her two sons, Clarence Ray "Skip" Batts Jr. and Scott Batts, and her beloved granddaughter, Courtney. She also leaves her siblings, Betty Godwin, Bill Godwin (Sandy), and Debbie Calton, along with many loved family members and friends who were blessed by her kindness and friendship.
