Bobbie Ruth Maxwell Schlitzkus

Bobbie Ruth Maxwell Schlitzkus, of Wilmington (formerly a long time Cary resident), passed away on May 13th, 2015 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Bobbie was born on February 25th, 1926, in Athens, TX, to the late Wesley Clark and Leona Gee Maxwell, and was the youngest of 24 siblings.

In addition to her parents, Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Col. (USAF ret.) Samuel Clarence Schlitzkus.

Bobbie is survived by daughter Suzanne Schlitzkus Morris of Greenville, NC; son, Samuel C. (Skip) Schlitzkus of Wilmington, NC; and daughter Melissa Schlitzkus Kittridge (James) of Winston-Salem, NC. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Erin Nicole Morris of Greenville, NC, Traci Leigh Morris of Greenville, NC, Jennifer Leigh Schlitzkus of Gladwin, MI, Tyler Lars Schlitzkus of Gladwin, MI, Christopher Samuel Aaron of Winston-Salem, NC, Stephen Maxwell Aaron of Winston-Salem, NC, James Patrick Kittridge III of Wilmington, NC, and Jessie Lynn Courson (Jeremy) of Redondo Beach, CA. She also leaves behind numerous close golf and bridge long-time friends.

Bobbie was a graduate of Brownsboro High School in Brownsboro, TX. After marriage in 1947, she was a devoted military spouse during her husband’s 31 year Air Force career. She was a longtime member of White Plains United Methodist Church in Cary. She had a lifelong passion for the game of golf and was a charter member of MacGregor Downs Country Club in Cary and was among the founding members of the ladies organization The MacDuffers. She also had a love of the game of bridge playing at least twice weekly for many years. Her love of travel was evidenced by her many travels through the world including England, France, Alaska, Switzerland, Australia, and Scotland. Bobbie had an infectious giggle, quick wit, and relished in the humor of a good joke.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Friday, May 22, 2015 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary. The family will receive friends immediately after the service. A graveside service will follow at 1pm at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh.
