Carol was preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years, Howard James, of Cary, NC. She is survived by son, Todd James, of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Jennifer James (husband Hans), of Cary, NC, granddaughter, Ruby James, of Cary, NC; sisters, Susan Baun, of Columbiana, OH, and Becky Simpson, of Columbiana, OH. Her mother-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy James, of Rome, NY, also survives her.
Carol was born on March 8, 1945 in Salem, OH to the late Samuel and Beryl Lindsay. She grew up in Columbiana, OH with many of her aunts, uncles and cousins. She graduated from Kent State University in 1967.
Carol and Howie met in Akron, OH and married on October 12, 1968. They lived there for several years and is where Todd was born. They moved to Pittsburgh, PA and then to Cleveland, OH where Jennifer was born. The family moved to Spring, TX in 1977 where Carol was a stay at home mom as well as a Volunteer Fire Fighter. In 1985, the family moved to Cary, NC. Carol was a teacher’s assistant at Farmington Woods Elementary. She also worked as an administrative assistant at Oberlin Road Pediatrics.
Carol will be loved and missed very much by her friends and family. She had a true love for all of them, and of nature, travel, gardening, and helping people. She was very involved in the Clothes Closet and Food Pantry at Brooks Avenue Church of Christ for many years.
A memorial is scheduled for Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 2:00pm at Brooks Avenue Church of Christ, 700 Brooks Ave, Raleigh, NC. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Carol’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carol’s name to transitionslifecare.org or the Association of Frontotemporal Degeneration (aftd.org).
Carol will be remembered by her loving children, other family members and her many friends for her joyful spirit, kind heart, good sense of humor and warm smile.
