

Carole Wilhelmina Madsen de Matteis, beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother passed away on June 10, 2023. Carole was born to Otto and Therese Madsen on January 23, 1934, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Patrick, and her beloved husband, Reginald de Matteis.
Carole graduated from Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY. She started playing bridge while in college and it remained a lifetime hobby. Carole was a competitive bridge player, liked to read, enjoyed her crossword puzzles, and loved dancing to Haitian music. After graduation, she worked for Café Madsen. She traveled throughout Europe and lived in Paris, France for several years.She returned to Haiti where she married her childhood sweetheart, Reginald. They met at the age of 13 and upon seeing her Reginald announced that he would one day marry her. Reginald and Carole were married for 54 years and were blessed with four children, Florence, Christina, Reginald II and Jean Marc. She loved her 11 grandchildren Stefanie, Jennifer, Gary, Nicole, Christopher, Alexander, Reginald III, Shane, Annalise, Sebastian, and Isabelle and her 4 great grandchildren Tucker, Adelaide, Madsen, and Lola.
Carole will be remembered for her elegance, charm, strength, and her unwavering faith with a special adoration for Our Mother of Perpetual Help. Most of all, she will be remembered for her complete devotion to her family.
Funeral Mass for Carole de Matteis will take place on Monday June 19th at 1:00 PM at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Cary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Hospital Albert Schweitzer in her beloved Haiti https://hashaiti.org/take-action/ways-to-give/donate/
