Cary Alfred Gramsch

Cary Alfred Gramsch passed from this life on October 27, 2024 at home in Cary, North Carolina at the age of 85. Born in Chicago Illinois, Mr. Gramsch graduated from Hirsch High School and then received a bachelor's degree in history from Augustana College, Rock Island Illinois. He taught 6th grade science and social studies in the West Aurora public school system and then spent 28 years until his retirement with Illinois Tool Works, Inc., in a wide range of financial leadership roles. He continued to consult for the company for more than 10 years afterwards. Mr. Gramsch volunteered his time in many capacities throughout his life. He was active in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts organizations in North Aurora, Illinois, and volunteered his time as treasurer for his church as well as in teaching Sunday School. He also offered his expertise to community organizations where he lived. Mr. Gramsch was an avid gardener, for the past 17 years his plants and flower beds providing a colorful backdrop for the walking trail that runs behind his residence in Cary.

Cary Gramsch is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marilyn, (nee DeRossett), son Stephen (Linda, nee Natchke), daughters Heather French (Henry) and Karen Zima (James), eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Alfred and mother Lila (nee van Cott) and brother Robert.
