Charles Weston Reagan went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 9, 2015. Chuck was born on March 21, 1942 to Marion Loval Reagan and Ruth Belle Severance Reagan in Renton, Washington. He grew up in Kent, Washington along with his older brother, John Reagan. Chuck graduated from Kent-Meridian High School in 1960. He then graduated from Biola University in California in 1965 where he met his lifelong best friends. He went to Western Seminary before becoming a pastor. He got his Ph. D. degree in 1979. Chuck spent 40 years ministering to people in churches in Oregon, Wisconsin, and Illinois. Upon retirement, Chuck and his wife, Nancy, moved to Cary, North Carolina to be closer to the two grandchildren.
Chuck became a Christian in grade schools when a Sunday School teacher spent time sharing the Gospel with him. Chuck knew this moment in time was one of the most important moments in his life and defined who he was. In John 14:6 Jesus answers, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life and no man comes to the Father but through me.” He spent his life, through good days and bad, sharing this message of hope with others. A song he often led the congregation in singing was “Oh Happy Day” as it talks about Jesus washing our sins away and teaching us how to watch and pray and live rejoicing everyday.
Growing up on a farm with a lake nearby, he loved the outdoors. A few years of owning a sailboat brought him much enjoyment. He always loved God’s creation and took pride in his well kept yard. His family teased him about his obsessions with weeds and leaves, but he was adamant about keeping a good lawn to maintain a good testimony in the neighborhood.
In 1966, Chuck met Nancy West at church in Portland, Oregon. They were married in 1968. They spent their years actively involved in Christian ministry at a variety of churches. Chuck invested time in people of all ages, whether it was the senior ministry, the nursery, or his neighbors. He often met people for lunch or breakfast. He loved leading small group Bible Studies and writing lessons for others to teach. He was known for his hard work and generosity at home, in the community, and at church, including mowing the lawn at church if that was needed or mopping the kitchen floor to surprise his wife. His prayer time each morning was a regular habit. He prayed for family and friends across the world and rejoiced over answered prayers. His health issues with dementia and Parkinson’s overshadowed his later years, but did not diminish his love for his family, his desire to teach God’s word, or his kindness to others.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Nancy West Reagan and his three children; daughter Jennifer Donaldson (John) and granddaughters, Jessica and Jill in Apex, NC; son Mark Reagan (Karen) in Raleigh, NC; and son Benjamin Reagan in Lynchburg, VA.
Special thanks to loving caregivers and hospice workers that helped the family take care of Chuck in the last two months, and thanks to the many friends at Colonial Baptist Church who reached out in so many ways.
