
Born in Salisbury, NC on May 17, 1939 she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Dolly Secrest. Her growing up years were spent in various towns including Rockingham, Wadesboro, Carthage, Troy, Raleigh and Cary. She married at a young age and worked as a secretary for several different departments in State Government while also caring for her three children. She attended NC State University for 2 years and graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1971 all while still raising her children.
She taught 7th grade at Cary Elementary for one year and then began working for Avon Products, Inc. in 1972 as a District Sales Manager. In 1979, she was promoted to Division Sales Manager and was transferred to Newark, Delaware and later to Atlanta, Georgia. She was able to move back to Cary in 1985 and retired from Avon in 1998.
Debbie was enthusiastic gardner, loved music, reading, cooking, and frequent lunches with her friends. For many years, she was a member of Cary First United Methodist Church, was the pianist for the Young's Men's Bilbe Class, and a member of the Joe Smith Sunday School Class. She was a former Wake County Master Gardner, President of Ruth Circle, President of Cary Garden Club, and recording secretary of Cary Woman's Club.
Debbie was preceded in death by her daughter, Catherine Elizabeth Mooneyham, who died in 1988.
On March 6, 1982, she married her beloved husband, Fred Padgett who survives her. She is also survived by her daughter, Leslie S. Campbell of Decatur, AL; son, Thomas Secrest of Winston Salem; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Sam Secrest of Cary and Mark Secrest of Scottsdale, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary. A graveside service will be held 11:00AM on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Cary.
