He was born November 20, 1945 in Davidson County, a son of Dolan and Zelpha Dietz Ward.
He is preceded in death by his wife Peggy Jane Ward.
Surviving are his son, Steven (and wife, Ruth) Ward of Clayton; grandchildren, Tyler Schenz and Conner Johnston.
He was a US Army veteran.
A graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Raleigh Memorial Park in Raleigh.
