Diane Gray, the forever cool, quick-witted, brilliantly funny,stylish-beyond-belief wife and mother, with a heart full of compassion, passed away on November 21, 2014 at the age of [redacted in accordance with Diane’s wishes].
Diane was foremost an educator: starting her career in 1974, she taught reading skills to learning disabled children at the prestigious Vincent Smith School for 10 years, with her signature combination of patience and humor. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Robert Gray, as well as her two daughters Victoria and Lindsay, her precocious grandchild Hailey, and her younger sister Denise Whitney.
She is remembered for her super powers: She was “a black hole of useless information” and could reproduce any literary, cultural, or historic factoid upon request. She could touch her middle finger to her wrist and stand on point on her toes. She could make you laugh until you cried with her twisted mischievous sense of humor.
Her wishes were to be cremated and to have the ashes brought back to Oyster Bay, NY by her family, and then have everybody go out for Chinese food.
In lieu of flowers, Diane would have liked donations to be made to the American Heart Association, The New York Public Library (the best library in the world in her opinion), or the Smithsonian.
